McALESTER — Justin Joyce started playing football in the fifth grade. Always a big kid — high school football site MaxPreps.com currently lists him as 6-foot-4 and 300 pounds — Joyce always played on the offensive line, usually at left or right guard.
For Joyce, the offensive line represents community and togetherness.
“It has to be five people but one heartbeat,” Joyce said Tuesday. “It has to be together at all times to be successful.”
Taken to a larger level, what Joyce said he enjoys so much about the line, he also sees in football as a sport.
“It’s not like other sports where it’s just one person,” Joyce said. “It takes the whole team, and it takes a certain kind of brotherhood, with each and every player together.”
