McALESTER — In the parking lot next to the Farmer’s Market on Main Street, a group of children of New Beginnings Church offer to clean cars for donations in order to pay for this month’s church camp trip to Camp Walk on Water in Gentry.

“Hoping to raise at least $600 today. It’s going to cost $110 a kid,” said Angie White of NBC on Saturday.

She said $600 is just half of what they need to afford the trip for the 11 children who plan to attend Camp WOW.

Around 10 a.m. Saturday, the group had only washed four cars and a motorcycle. White added the lot at Choctaw Avenue and Main Street was previously full from a 5K/1-mile run hosted by Shared Blessing that began around 7 a.m. and ended around 9:30 a.m, so by 10 a.m. they were just getting started.

White said if anyone would like to support a child for Camp WOW, they should call the church at 918-423-8383.

NBC is at 1402 Tanglewood Dr. in McAlester, behind the Riverside Autoplex on 69 Highway.
