McALESTER — “Junior” Loyd Franklin Edge Jr.

“Junior”  Loyd Franklin Edge Jr., 89, of Kiowa, died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at his home.

The family will receive visitors from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, at Bishop Funeral Service in McAlester.

Funeral services are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Kiowa Public School’s new auditorium, with the Rev. Mark Edge, the Rev. Brent Davis and the Rev. Kenneth McMath officiating.

Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard. Interment will be at the Kiowa Cemetery in Kiowa. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service in McAlester.

He was born to Loyd Franklin Edge, Sr. and Ella Mae (Ayers) Edge on April 16, 1924, in Hartshorne. He graduated from Limestone Gap School.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Barbara Louise (Abels) Reed June 22, 1973, in Kiowa. He worked as a rancher with his father and retired from the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant where he worked on the railroad. He enjoyed raising and caring for horses. He was a member of Praise Fellowship Church in Kiowa.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara, of the home; sons Frank Edge, III and wife, Anna, of Oklahoma City; Steve Reed, and wife, Shelly, of     Kiowa; Dwayne Latty and wife, Andrea    , Kiowa; Jim Latty, of    Pittsburg, Okla.; daughters, Holly Kennon and husband, Jeremy, of McAlester; Mandy McMath and husband, Randy, of    Kiowa; and Kathy Holeman and husband, Rex, of Eufaula.

Also, grandchildren, Cambree Kennon, Aaron Boatright and wife, Lindsay; Sherri Davis and husband, Mark; Hunter Reed, Maegen Reed, Judah Reed, Courtney Mitchell and husband, John; Brandon Latty and wife, Keah; Alyssa Latty and Jared Latty.

Also numerous great-grandchildren; brothers, Herman Edge and wife, Janice, of Tulsa; Charlie Edge and wife, Nancy, of Ohio; Arlie Edge and wife, Billie Clyde, of Ponca City; Chester Edge, of Stringtown; sisters Jessie Couch, of Kiowa, and Lou May, of Tennessee. In addition, he had numerous friends, nephews and other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Loyd Franklin and Ella Mae Edge, and brothers, Lawrence Edge and Tommy Edge.

Active pallbearers are Rex Holeman, Steve Reed, Jeremy Kennon, Randy McMath, Delbert Amason, Dwayne Latty, Dennis McMath, Kenneth Snyder.

Honorary Pallbearers are Doyle, Vernon “Coon” Adams, Kelvin Johnston, R.E. Hoe and Pake McEntire.
