McALESTER — Jamie Lu Emery Melancon of McAles-ter, OK, passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord on Sunday, March 23, 2014.
She was cherished by her three children: Elaine Barnes (Barry) of Riverside, MO; Charles Melancon (Darlene) of Covington, LA; and Ruth Doss of Navarre, FL. She is also survived by two grandsons: Charles Melancon III of Albuquerque, NM, and Jean-Paul Melancon of Austin, TX; a great-granddaughter: Samantha Melancon of Albuquerque, NM; and two siblings: Wanda Magdalena (Phillip) of McAlester, and James Emery of Las Vegas, NV.
Considered a driving force in the Christian community of McAlester, Jamie is most recently remembered for the organization and hard work with the Clothing Room of the First Baptist Church of McAlester, which has served thousands during times of need. She was also involved in the WMU; served as the Director of 5th Grade Sunday School for 23 years; and was active in community outreach programs. Many years ago while living in Corpus Christi, TX, Jamie founded the first WMU at Trinity Baptist Church.
Jamie’s many dear relatives and friends are invited to join in her Celebration of Life on Friday, March 28, 2014 at the Brumley-Mills Chapel. A memorial service will begin at 10 a.m., followed by a graveside service. For those desiring memorials, contributions to the First Baptist Church of McAlester Clothing Room or Missions in Action in care of the First Baptist Church of McAlester would be appreciated.
