Muriel Walker, 86, of McAlester, died Sunday, March 9, 2014, at New Hope Retirement Center in McAlester.
The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Bishop Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bishop Chapel of Memories with the Rev. John McNeal officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.
Born Dec. 9, 1927, in Savanna, she was the daughter of Ellis and Gertrude (Buckner) Kay. Her mother preceded her in death when she was 4 years old and her father later married Irene (Vanderburg) Kay.
She attended Savanna Schools, graduating with the Class of 1945. After graduation, she attended business school in Oklahoma City.
On June 2, 1946, she married William Hugh Walker Jr.
She worked at both First National Bank and BancFirst in McAlester. In later years, she worked at both Walnut Grove Living Center and Heritage Hills, also in McAlester.
She enjoyed gardening, doing word puzzles and baking. She also enjoyed helping her husband with their small cattle ranch. She devoted her entire life to her family and was proud of her grandsons and her four great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Arthur Walker and Stacy Hardy, of Eufaula; her daughter and son-in-law, Jacquelyn and R.J. Phillips, of Savanna; grandsons, Jarred Phillips and wife, Stacey, of McAlester, and Dustin Phillips and wife, Tiffany, of Savanna.
Also, stepgrandsons, Justin Hardy, Greeley, Colo., and Adam Hardy, Greeley; great-grandsons, Tyler Phillips, of McAlester, Brayden Phillips, of McAlester, and Weslee Phillips, of Savanna, and great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Phillips, of McAlester.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Walker; an infant son; her parents, Gertrude Kay and Ellis and Irene Kay; her in-laws, Bill and Mattie Walker, and brothers, Jack Kay and wife, Murel, and Dale Kay.
Pallbearers will be David Phillips, Matthew Phillips, Richard Kelly, Christopher Kay, Tracy Kay and Marty Kay.
