McALESTER — Eleanor Louise Hopper, 88, of McAlester, died Sunday, March 9, 2014, at her home.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Bishop Chapel of Memories with Pastor Terren Anderson officiating. Entombment will be in Hopper Mausoleum at Oak Hill Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.

Born April 21, 1925, in McAlester, she was the daughter of Dr. William Roi Nelson and Audrey Jones Nelson. She graduated from McAlester High School in the Class of 1943 and then attended Christian College of Columbia in Missouri, graduating in 1945 with an associate degree in the arts. She returned to McAlester and worked for Public Service Company as a cashier.

She married Billy Lee “Bill” Hopper on Feb. 1, 1948, in McAlester, and lived the remainder of her life in McAlester. As well as a homemaker, she also was the bookkeeper for Hopper Ranch for many years.

She was a longtime active member of Grand Avenue (First) United Methodist Church, a member of McAlester Country Club and Saturday and Thursday Night Dance Clubs. She was a member of P.E.O. Chapter AT along with being active in other civic and social organizations in McAlester and enjoyed traveling and also fishing with her husband.

Survivors include son, Mark Hopper and wife, Debbie, of McAlester; two granddaughters, Brenna Hopper, of McAlester, and Shanna Tippit and husband, Bill, of McAlester.

Also, five great-grandchildren, Jacob Hopper, Lauren Isom, Jevan Hopper, Crispin Stacey and Katara Parent, all of McAlester; a brother, Lyle Nelson, of Muskogee; two stepgrandsons, Dr. Rob Hance and wife, Holli, Dallas, Texas, and Greg Young and wife, Brook, of McAlester, and three stepgreat-grandchildren, Nicholas Hance, Madison Hance and Larick Hance.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Roi and Audrey Nelson, and husband, Bill Hopper, March 9, 2008.

Pallbearers will be Gary Moores, Mark Lauerman, Fred Ettner, Dr. Rob Hance, Greg Young and Bob Turnbow.

Honorary pallbearers will be Marshall Pruitt, Tommy Ricks, Bob Ettner, Crockett Hutson, Joe Weddle and Mike Dusenberry.
