Inez H. Stitter, 96, of Hartshorne, died Thursday, July 25, 2013, at McAlester Reional Health Center.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home In Hartshorne.
Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Monday at Edgewood United Methodist Church in Hartshorne with the Rev. David Monk and Rev. Dawna Bridgwater Dhaenens officiating. Interment will be at Holy Rosary Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of Hartshorne.
She was born on Feb. 27, 1917, in Hartshorne to Robert Isaac and Charlsie (Slaton) Huddleston. She was a life-long resident of Hartshorne and graduated from Hartshorne High School in 1935. She then attended Eastern State College in Wilburton and the Southeastern State College in Durant. She married Frank Joseph Sitter on Oct. 18, 1941.
She worked at Jones Academy for 65 years, many years as administrative assistant, and also ran the Christian Children’s Program and the Jones Academy Library, which is now known as the Inez Sitter Library. She earned numerous commendations and awards during her tenure there, including a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Choctaw Nation, a State of Oklahoma Resolution and a Congressional Resolution in recognition of her many years of devoted service to the Choctaw Nation. She enjoyed dancing and was a champion Charleston dancer. She was a lifetime member of the Edgewood United Methodist Church in Hartshorne.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and David Goddard, of Houston, Texas; grandchildren Charlsie Melinda Anderson, and her husband, Luke, of Holland, Texas; Allison King and her husband, Chris, of Cookeville, Tenn.; Andrew Goddard, of Houston; Cole Wilson, of Hartshorne, and Kyle Wilson, of Atlanta, Ga.; great-grandchildren Bergan Anderson, of Holland, Texas; Dylan Anderson, of Holland, Texas, and Laura Ashley Wilson, of Tulsa; one sister, Mary Ellen Latham, of Norman; a sister-in-law, Kizella Huddleston, of Shawnee, and many neices and nephews. She was preceeded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter, Laura Sitter Wilson, and a son, Frankie Joe Sitter, Jr.
Active pallbearers are family members and Joe Downy. Honorary pallbearers are Brad Spears, Richard and Bobbi Cooper, Teddy Joe Sitter, John Paul Peace, Robert Bernasky, John William Ranallo, Lily Konsure, Shirley Ann Posey, Karen Beare and the entire staff of Beare Manor, Suzanne Hearod, George and Jane Bishop, Vicki Lopez Duncan and Linda Konsure Faber.
