James C. Nelson

McALESTER — James C. Nelson, 75, of McAlester, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, at a local nursing home.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Bishop Chapel of Memories. Military honors will be provided by Robert  B. Thomas Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post No. 1098. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.

Born Aug. 24, 1937, in McAlester, he was the son of John W. and Myrtle Dolittle Nelson. He was a Naval  Reservist his senior year of high school, graduating from McAlester High School in 1958.

He then joined the United States Marine Corps and, after four years of service, he enlisted in the United States Army, eventually retiring after 20 years of service. He was a chief warrant officer three, becoming an intelligence agent in charge of security for the Secretary of Defense of the United States of America. He was stationed in Germany, Korea and did three tours in Vietnam.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Scott Eric and Angie Nelson, of McAlester; a daughter and son-in-law, Tina Nelson and Pat Medlock, Austin, Texas; granddaughters, Mallory Kloehr Nelson and Lanie Ann Nelson, of McAlester.

Also, his brother and sister-in-law, John Jay and Mary Ann Nelson, Tyler, Texas; nephew and spouse, Kenny and Debbie Nelson, of Eufaula; grandniece and her daughters, Felicia Arpoika, of Eufaula, and Aryella and Princess Arpoika, of Eufaula; grandniece and her son, Nicole Nelson, of Eufaula, and Zander Wayne Stanley, of Eufaula; nephew and his son, Robert C. Nelson, Tyler, Texas, and John W. Nelson III, Tyler,  Texas, and special friends of son, Scott, Curtis Simpson, Jeff  Burns and Josh Rollins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John W.  and Myrtle Nelson.
