Clarence Lee Painter

McALESTER — Clarence Lee Painter, 83, of Krebs, died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, at his home.

The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bishop Funeral Service.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bishop Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Steve Eldridge and Daniel Morrison officiating. Burial will be at Tannehill Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.

Born Oct. 29, 1930, in Henryetta, he was the son of William Joseph and Nellie (Patty) Painter. He grew up in Pittsburg County and was a farmer and rancher most of his life. He also worked for Zenith Trucking and Brass Leasing, driving trucks until retirement in 2007. He then drove a dump truck for Harrison Construction.

He married Linda Howard-Santino on Nov. 22, 1973, in McAlester.

He was an avid vegetable gardener and was a familiar face at McAlester Farmers Market. He was also known for selling watermelons out of his pickup truck on U.S. Highway 270 East.

He was a member of Tannehill Free Will Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Painter, of the home; daughters, Phyllis Williamson and husband, Randy, of McAlester, and Penny James and husband, Larry, of Pine Top; sons, Randy Painter and wife Sherri, Grand Junction, Colo., and Ronald Painter, of McAlester.

Also, grandchildren, Kristen Solheim, Brian Doyle, Wade Doyle, Chad Painter, Cody Painter, Shawn Painter, Jade Painter and Whitley Painter; nine great-grandchildren; stepsons, Joe Santino and wife, Jeannie, of McAlester, and Duane “Hoss” Santino, of McAlester.

And, stepgranddaughter, Dawn Pomaville and husband, Luke; stepgrandsons, Cody Klucas and Casey Klucas; sisters, Romalee Bearden and husband, C.J., of Bache, and Loretta Carter, of Eufaula; brother-in-law, Tom Evans, of McAlester; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jean Dunn, St. Augustine, Fla., Fred and Pat Howard, of Del City, and Maxine and Charles Stubblefield, of Oklahoma City, and numerous other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Nellie Painter; a son, Timmy Painter, on Aug. 20, 1994; brothers, Johnye Painter, Marvin Painter and Jody Painter; sisters, Lorene Conners and Helen Evans; sister-in-law, Marie Janell, and brother-in-law, Commodore Howard.

Pallbearers will be Melvin McKee, Bob Bailey, Bobby Kincade, Allen Boatright, Nick Bennett and Jerry Yandell.

Honorary pallbearers will be his “Farming and Trucking Buddies,” Bill Lavarnway, Junior Kelley, Randy Cunningham, Ted Barlow, Joe Carrion, Darrell Hunter, Tony Drizness, Chris Tadlock and Ancil Bennett.
