Kenneth Joe Rose, of Muse, died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014.
Funeral services were Feb. 25 at Whitesboro Baptist Church with Brother Mark Cook officiating. Burial was at Whitesboro Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Burkhart Funeral Home.
Born July 31, 1929, in Whitesboro, he was the son of Oscar and Pearl Smith Rose. He had three brothers, Ralph Rose, Ernest Rose and Elmer Rose, and five sisters, Gladys James, Opal Norvell, Audrey Juarez, Norma Jean Fields and Jo Griffith. He attended school in Whitesboro and college at Wilburton.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany.
He retired from the U.S. Forest Service with 31 years as a federal fire and law enforcement officer. He was a rancher, trader and businessman for years in the Kiamichi Valley and surrounding areas.
He married Dorothy Dehart Rose in 1954 in Whitesboro and they had four children.
He enjoyed hunting and spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed his job so he could spend time in the woods and the outdoors.
He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include children, Shirley Nelson, of Talihina, Gary Rose, of Whitesboro, and Larry Rose, Bentonville, Ark.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, Westley Baugh, Kristra Curley, Shawna Baugh, Justin Rose, Tyler Rose, Abby Rose, Katy Rose, Brashaud Curley, Karrah Curley, Kyler Baugh, Blaze Baugh, Zachary Baugh, Faith Baugh, Braton Rose and Brody Rose.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sheila Rose.
