Benjamin Lawson

McALESTER — Benjamin Lawson, 71, lifelong resident of the Hartshorne/Haileyville area, died Saturday, May, 17, 2014, at his home.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home Chapel in Hartshorne.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Hartshorne, officiated by the Rev. Kenneth Clay. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Hartshorne.

Funeral services are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of Hartshorne.

Born July 21, 1942, in Hartshorne, he was the son of Harvey and Erma Lee (Lloyd) Lawson.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1966 and then in the National Guard for more than 20 years.

He married Patricia Rich on Nov. 8, 1975.

He retired from Rockwell/Boeing after working there for 21 years.

He was a member of the Haileyville Assembly of God Church, American Legion Post #180 in Hartshorne, and the Masonic Lodge in McAlester.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Lawson, of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Jodi Hoppert, of Denison, Texas; three grandchildren, Jesi Hoppert, of Denison, Texas, Jena Hoppert, of Denison, Texas, and Beau Williams, of Hartshorne; sisters and brothers-in-law, Martha and Ted Casewell, of Jamestown, Calif.; Ella Mae Volland, of Haileyville, Diana Kendricks, of Haileyville; brothers and sisters-in-law Bobby and Vida Lawson, of Hartshorne, Johnny and Terry Lawson, of Eufaula, Norman and Cathy Lawson, of Haileyville, Loyd and Gail Lawson, of Wilburton, Steve and Paula Byrd, of Haileyville, and special niece Cheryl Wilcox, of Krebs.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Erma Lee Lawson, stepson, Robert Hoppert; mother and father-in-law, Rollie and Belva Rich; brothers, Jesse and Gilbert Lawson; sister, Pat Ryan; and  brother-in-law,  Jimmy Rich.

Pallbearers will be Robert Ray, Ted Evicks, James Coy, Alvie Fite, Richard Cooper and Jimmy Williams.
