Joe David King

McALESTER — Joe David King, 80, of McAlester, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010, at McAlester.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bishop Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Daniel Dubach officiating. Masonic service will be provided by the South McAlester Lodge #96. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service.

Born Oct. 25, 1930, at the former Albert Pike Hospital in McAlester, the son of Dulcie Josephine  and David Vincent Callicutt, he attended McAlester Public Schools through his junior year when he moved to Albuquerque, N.M., where he later graduated. He continued his education at the University of New Mexico for one year and the University of Oklahoma for five years, receiving a bachelor’s of business administration degree in business management, and a bachelor’s of science degree in industrial engineering.

He was an overseas veteran of the Korean War, serving as a flight line maintenance officer in the Strategic Air Command. He was an employee of Charles Komar and Sons, working as the plant industrial engineer, plant manager, director of manufacturing, director of quality control for domestic and off-shore production, and production consultant for the off-shore and eastern European affiliates. He retired from Komar in 1999 after 41 years of continuous years of service.

He was a past president of the Kiwanis Club and was an active member and past president of the McAlester Lion’s Club. He also was a member of the McAlester Elks Lodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars, a 32nd-degree Mason and a member of the Shrine Order. He also was a member of First Christian Church, McAlester Country Club and the Fin and Feather Club.

During his retirement years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, yard work, playing golf and charity and civic work.

Survivors include a sister, Elizabeth Newton, of Lincoln, Neb.; a niece, Tracy Meyer, of St. Louis, Mo.; two nephews, Bryan Newton, of St. Louis, Mo., Dale King, of Oklahoma City, and several grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dulcie King; his father, D.V. Callicutt; his stepfather, W.V. King, and a stepbrother, Hershel King.

Pallbearers include Bryan Newton, Bill McMahan,  Bob Basolo, Tom Bledsoe, George Lampton and Cap Grantham.

Honorary pallbearers include members of the McAlester Lions Club.

The family requests memorials be made to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundations or the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation.
