McALESTER — Bobby Gene Babb, 80, of McAlester, died Monday, March 18, 2013, at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home.  

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Chaney’s Memorial Chapel with Pastor Larry Jones officiating. Burial will be at Holdenville Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home of McAlester.

Born Nov. 20, 1932, in Holdenville, he was the son of Eugene Garfield Babb and Neoma Ruth (Venable) Babb.

He joined the United States Army on Jan. 27, 1953, and served in the Korean War.

After being honorably discharged, he married Bonnie Garner on Oct. 17, 1956, in Ada, and they had three children.

He later married Vern Oriece Shed on Jan. 3, 1969, and they had a son and he also had a stepdaughter.  

He owned the Skelly Service Station at the corner of Strong Boulevard and Carl Albert Parkway and worked as a service manager for several years in the automotive dealerships: Buick and Pontiac in McAlester, Toyota in Lawton, and Perry Ford in Holdenville.

He later worked at B&K Marine as a boat technician until his retirement. Although he retired, his customers continued to ask for his help on their boats, and so he decided to start his own business at his home.

He enjoyed family visits and spending time together, racoon hunting, fishing and tinkering with things. He also enjoyed fixing and putting things back together.  

Survivors include his wife, Oriece Babb, of the home; sons, Robert Babb and wife, Donna, of Holdenville, and Britt Babb and wife, Erica, of Pryor; daughter, Debbie Babb, Fort Worth, Texas; stepdaughter, Bettina Mangrum and husband, Darrell, The Colony, Texas.

Also, brothers, Jack Babb and wife, Sue, of Holdenville, Wayne Babb and Sherrie, of Holdenville, and John Babb and wife, Pam, of Holdenville; sisters, Marie Grimes, of Holdenville, Fern Shockley, of Holdenville, and Jane Meyer, of Oklahoma City.

And, grandchildren, Jesse Babb, of Holdenville, Misty Vanston and husband, Joe, of Comanche, Brandy Babb, of Duncan, Hayden Babb and Hadley Babb, of Pryor, Tammy Smolinski and husband, Joe, Fort Worth, Texas, Courtney Hammers, of McAlester, and Troy Hammers, Dallas, and eight great-grandchildren.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Chris Babb; grandsons, Jeremy Fincher and Derrick Hammers, and brothers, Billy, Ray and Homer Babb.
