ENID, Okla. — Enid, Okla. police officer Lee Friesendahl was treated and released at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center Saturday night after his patrol car was struck by a strong windstorm triggered by a heat burst.

The blast contained debris, which broke the windshield of his vehicle. EPD Sgt. Richard Sutton said the officer suffered cuts and scrapes, but is doing well.

No injuries were reported in a 10-car pileup Saturday night at 162nd and U.S. 412. The accident was caused by blowing dust, which obscured drivers’ vision.

After Saturday’s brush with strong to severe storms, Enid remained dry Sunday as tornadic storms churned to the south and east.
