Drug labs discovered

CRIME WATCH | Police say they found two labs and arrested a and and a woman

Law enforcement officers called to what was supposed to be a vacant mobile home in Crowder on Wednesday found it occupied — and a couple of methamphetamine labs inside as well.

Pittsburg County Sheriff’s Deputy Jeremy Kennon answered the initial call, accompanied by a member of the narcotics task force, said Pittsburg County Det. Capt. Don Hass.

“When they came upon the trailer, a guy came running out,” Hass said.

The officers stopped and arrested the man, identified as Danny Golden, 29, of Crowder, Hass said. Officers also arrested Shelli Johnson, 42, of Crowder, at the trailer..

The officers obtained a search warrant and began a search of the site near dark, according to Hass.

“They found two methamphetamine labs inside the trailer,” Hass said — a “shake and bake” lab and a generator lab.

A “shake and bake” lab utilizes a method of making methamphetamine by mixing chemicals in a bottle, while a generator lab uses a generator to cook the chemicals, according to police.

Both methods are considered dangerous because the chemicals can ignite or explode, Hass noted.

The McAlester Fire Department’s HAZMAT unit and the Crowder Volunteer Fire Department, which also has personnel trained in handling hazardous substances, were at the scene to remove the dangerous chemicals.

It took them about 90 minutes to remove the hazardous materials, according to Hass.

Golden and Johnson were booked into the Pittsburg County Jail on initial complaints of endeavoring to manufacture methamphetamine, Hass said. They were also booked on initial complaints of possession of a controlled dangerous substance.
