Main Street

McALESTER —

McAlester Modern Woodmen awarded $2,500 in matching funds to McAlester Main Street for streetscape improvements. McAlester Main Street is making plans for landscaping projects to be installed in the spring of 2013. McAlester Main Street raised $2,700 through Trick or Treat Party in the Street on Halloween night and through the Wild Color Stampede, held in conjunction with McAlester’s Old Town Association as a part of the Wild West Festival. Both events were held in October and Modern Woodmen volunteers lent a hand. Betty Balkman, local representative of Modern Woodmen, presented the McAlester Main Street board with a check totaling $5,200, including the money raised by McAlester Main Street and the matching grant amount. Modern Woodmen is a tax-exempt fraternal benefit society that sells life insurance, annuity and investment products not to benefit stockholders but to improve the quality of life of its stakeholders – members, their families and their communities. This is accomplished through social, charitable and volunteer activities. Their matching fund program offers members nationwide the chance to show support for a community cause, organization or individual in need by holding fundraisers and matching money raised up to $2,500.
