Each year our office provides classroom enrichment programs for school and groups working with youth. Most if not all of the programs are provided free of charge and are offered as a supplement to what is being conducted in the classroom by the respective teachers. These programs are provided by our 4-H and FCS educators. For the purpose of this article I will focus on what programs I provide through the 4-H office only.
Careful with Strangers: This program is designed for grades K-3 and is focused on Curriculum for Health and social studies. The program length is one unit, classroom length. This activity is designed to help keep children safe around strangers.
Ag. In The Classroom: This program is designed for grades K-4. The curriculum focus is science, math, language arts, social studies and art. Program length is several programs and are available from a teacher’s guide. This program can either be conducted by 4-H educator or loaned to the teacher. This activity is designed to teach about the positive impacts of agriculture on our life.
Beginning of Life: This program is designed for grades K-6. The curriculum is focused on science. Our office will provide eggs in February and April. The teacher must provide an incubator for the eggs. We have a program guide that we give the teacher to help guide them through the process.
Character Counts: This program is designed for grades K-12. The curriculum focus is on social studies, science and language arts. The program length can be adjusted between three to six sessions typically held with one program per week (dependent upon time constraints). This activity is designed to focus and build character in our students.
Step Up to Leadership: This program is designed for grades 4-12. The program length is between three and six sessions dependent upon time constraints. This activity is focused on trying to build leadership skills in our youth.
Tornado Safety: This program is designed for grades K-6. The curriculum focus is on science. The program length is one unit or classroom session. This activity focuses on how to stay safe in inclement weather conditions.
Take a Stand: This is an anti-bullying program for grades 4-8. The program length is one to six sessions dependent upon time constraints.
True Colors: This program is for grades 6-12. The focus is on social studies, psychology, and sociology. The program may be conducted in one classroom session. The activity is a personality test and discusses what each personality trait is.
Express Yourself is designed for grades 3-12. The program can be conducted in 1-3 classroom sessions. We try to teach public speaking skills to our youth.
All programs are scheduled based on educator and classroom time available. These programs are also offered during the summer for interested groups.
