Holly Garden Club learns to trim, cut trees

From submitted reports

To trim or not to trim?

That was the question Ted Evicks, Pittsburg County OSU Extension agent, answered during the monthly meeting of the Holly Garden Club.

The meeting was held at the home of Marty Center. Evicks discussed what trees needed to be trimmed or cut down on the Center property following the January ice storm. What was interesting was he had shown the group how to plant the same trees 20 years earlier.

Evicks said OSU is now recommending a move to xeriscaping for hot and dry climates. OSU is also recommending planting trees such as bald cypress and white oak which withstood the ice storm better.

President Pat Bartheld held a business meeting with plans made for the coming year. Refreshments were served by Grace Dudley and Center.
