One man missing after boating accident on Lake Eufaula

McALESTER — One man is missing and three others — including two children — were injured after a hit-and-run boat accident on Lake Eufaula on Thursday, authorities say.

The incident occurred just after 10 p.m. about 800 yards north of Sherwood Point on Lake Eufaula, about a mile east of Eufaula Cove, according to a report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Gary McIninch, 55, of Oklahoma City, remained missing at presstime after he was ejected from a pontooon that was struck by a 20-foot white and dark colored ski boat, according to a report from the OHP.

Witnesses said the ski boat left the scene of the accident.

The pontoon carrying 10 people including five children and a 1996 Stingray boat where anchored together with lighting when the pontoon was hit by the ski boat at an estimated 30 mph, according to the OHP.

The crash caused the ski boat to go airborne and land atop the Stingray, which had four adults on board.

Another woman had been swimming behind the pontoon at the time of the collision.

Authorities were told the pilot of the ski boat circled back and asked if everyone was okay. He was told a person was missing and at some point afterwards left the scene, according to the OHP accident report.

Meanwhile, the injured children, ages 7 and 6, were transported to shore by troopers and then by medical helicopter to separate Oklahoma City hospitals where they are both listed stable condition. The 7-year-old suffered a leg injury, according to the report, and the 6-year-old had a head injury.

A third injured person, a Midwest City man aboard the Stingray, was treated at the scene for a knee injury.

The case was investigated by troopers Justin Williams and Rodney Copeland, with assistance from troopers Brian Curley and Lt. Brian Hale of the marine enforcement section of OHP.
