Myers, Pittsburg County in the clear for the night

Sunday evening storms leave area unscaved

McALESTER — Pittsburg County is in the clear of severe weather for Sunday night, according to the director of McAlester/Pittsburg County Office of Emeregency Management Trent Myers.

Frank Phillips, repressentative for Public Service Company of Oklahoma said — as of 9:07 p.m. — Sunday night, in Stigler, in Haskell County, there were 638 without power and 344 out in Tallihina, in LeFlore County. HOwever, there were no power outages in Pittsburg County.

Phillips also said a tree was split in two and downed in McAlester by winds from Sunday evening's severe storms.

Myers said a fruit tree was blown over in Ashland by strong winds.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., the National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Pittsburg County and surrounding counties.

At approximately 7:45 p.m., warnings were issued for the area and was effective until 8:30 p.m.

At approximately 8:30 p.m., Myers said Pittsburg County is in the clear for Sunday and said he said he would keep the McAlester News-Capital posted as to any developing severe weather.
