More thunderstorms to hit McAlester

McALESTER — More thunderstorms are expected to hit McAlester Tuesday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service website. Currently, McAlester is experiencing light rain, 62 degree weather and 96 percent humidity, according to NWS. However, there is a 90 percent chance of heavy rain Tuesday afternoon and a 50 percent chance of thunderstorms Tuesday evening.

A severe thunderstorm and severe weather warning was issued for Pittsburg County until 2 p.m. Tuesday. “People outdoors should move inside a sturdy building,” the NWS warning states. “Stay away form windows and doors until the storm has passed.”

A flash flood warning for Pittsburg County was also issued by NWS until 6 p.m. and a severe thunderstorm watch was issued for Pittsburg County until 7 p.m. The NWS also issued a hazardous weather outlook for Pittsburg County, stating the risk for a tornado is elevated for Tuesday afternoon and evening.
