A 30-year-old McAlester man was killed in the early morning hours Friday after he was struck by a train on the south side of the city, police said.
Police were withholding the victim’s name early Friday pending notification of the next-of-kin.
The pedestrian accident occurred at approximately 3:12 a.m., said McAlester Police Det. Capt. Gary Wansick.
“He was about 400 feet north of V. Hubert Smith Drive on the Union Pacific tracks and was struck by the train,” Wansick said.
The man was dead at the scene, according to Wansick. He said the state Medical Examiner’s office has been notified.
Wansick said police have not determined what the man was doing on the tracks.
With the accident under investigation, no further details were available at the time, Wansick said early Friday.
