Heavy rain has flooded several Pittsburg County roads but as of 8:45 a.m. most are open, officials say.
“We haven’t closed any yet but it could happen any time,” said Kevin Smith, District Two commissioner.
Smith said his men worked most of the night clearing broken tree limbs to keep the roads clear. He also said he expects road cosures from the flooding.
Commissioners Gene Rogers and Ronnie Young said there men were out checking roads for possible flooding.
Rogers said Burger Road northeast of Hartshorne was closed.
Meanwhile, Kiowa Police Chief Tony Runyon said shortly after 8:30 a.m. that several roads in Kiowa were submerged and would be closed in the next hour. He said heavy rain caused two cars to hydroplane off U.S. Highway 69 south into a ditch. No injuries were reported.
