UPDATE: Shots at OU are possibly a false alarm

NORMAN — Authorities have evacuated Gould Hall following reports of gunfire, however, reports from the scene indicate the incident may have been a false alarm.

Landscape Architecture professor Tom Woodfin said he didn’t hear anything inside his office. He looked out and saw a uniformed officer carrying a rifle.

Authorities are evacuating the building.

“Somebody thought they heard gunshots and so they initiated the active shooter response team,” Woodfin said. “As far as I know there hasn’t been any corroboration shots.”

Woodfin said he counts 12 Norman police and sheriff vehicles parked on the oval.

“There’s a woman standing at the door of Gaylord saying if you’re not a police officer, get inside. They’re gathering us in the auditorium of Gaylord,” Woodfin said.

OU President David Boren is reporting that a faculty member heard what she thought were gunshots. OU and Norman Police search Gould Hall and found no evidence of a shooting. They are now re-checking Gould Hall.

Boren said he was pleased with the emergency response which went out to the entire campus. He appreciated the Norman SWAT team responding so quickly.
