2 hurt, 2 killed in wrecks

McALESTER — Two Eufaula men are dead, and a Stuart motorcyclist and a Muskogee truck driver are hospitalized following traffic accidents over the weekend.

Cody Gray and Josh Laughlin, both 20 and both of Eufaula, were killed Saturday night when the four-wheeler they were riding was hit head-on by a pick-up truck on Stidham Road in McIntosh County, according to a report by Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Injured in a separate accident just after midnight Saturday night was Wesley S. Eddings, 36, of Stuart, after the motorcycle he was riding hit another bike in Custer County, OHP reported.

Hospitalized in a third accident was Tony Russell Brewer, 57, of Muskogee when the semi-truck he was driving overturned on U.S. Highway 69 Saturday night north of Eufaula.

According to the patrol, Gray was driving a four-wheeler south on Stidham Road with Laughlin as a passenger when they were hit by a northbound pick-up truck driven by Ezekiel McIntosh, 23, also of Eufaula. According to OHP, lights on the four-wheeler were not on and McIntosh was passing another vehicle when the accident happened at about 11:15 p.m. Saturday.

Both Gray and Laughlin were pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck, about eight miles northwest of Eufaula, according to OHP.

About an hour later in Custer County in western Oklahoma, Eddings was driving a 2006 Honda motorcycle when it hit the back of a 2013 Harley Davidson motorcycle that had slowed to make a left turn, according to OHP. Both Eddings and the driver of the Harley, James R. Regan Jr., 43, of Egan, La., had been northbound on State Highway 54 when the accident happened.

According to OHP, Eddings was thrown about 130 feet in the collision; Regan was not injured. Neither was wearing a helmet, OHP reported.

Eddings was taken to Weatherford Regional Hospital and then by medical aircraft to University of Oklahoma Medical Center in Oklahoma City with head injuries. He remained in critical condition Monday morning, a hospital spokesman said.

Cause of the collision was attributed to exceeding the legal limit, according to a report from OHP, which also noted an odor of alcohol on Eddings.

Earlier Saturday night north of Eufaula at Texanna Road, a semi-trick flipped, pinning the driver for more than two hours.

OHP reported Brewer was driving a 2011 Penske tractor truck northbound on U.S. Highway 69 when it ran off the right side of the highway about a half mile south of Texanna Road, hit a ditch, crossed over an access road and hit a second ditch before coming to rest on the driver’s side.

Brewer was taken by medical aircraft to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa where he was hospitalized in stable condition with internal trunk injuries, OHP reported.

The patrol attributed cause of the 8:10 p.m. collision to a distraction inside the vehicle, according to its report.
