Roy Isom Jr.

Roy Isom Jr., 83, of Wilburton, died Thursday, May 14, 2009, at St. John’s Medical Center in Tulsa.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Jones-Harkins Chapel with the Rev. Doug Miller officiating. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Fort Gibson National Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Jones-Harkins Funeral Home of Wilburton.

Born Oct. 9, 1925, in Crowder, he was the son of Roy C. and Carrie (Nelson) Isom. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He married Wilma Blalack on Aug. 26, 1970, in Killeen, Texas.

He had a total of 31 years with civil service. During that time he was also a member of the Naval and Army reserves.

As part of the naval reserve duty, he was assigned to the USS New Jersey. He retired from the army reserve with 30 years service. His last assignment was with the 356th Transportation Co. (helicopter maintenance) of Norman.

After retirement in 1976, they moved to Wilburton where they lived on an acreage south of town. In early 2008, they moved to their present home in Wilburton.

They both enjoyed being members of the Wilburton Round-Up Club. Trail rides were among their favorite activities.

He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3649 and served in several positions, including junior vice president and adjutant.

He was of the Baptist Faith.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma (Blalack) Isom, of the home; son, Tom Isom and wife, Beverly, of Midwest City; daughter, Connie Gibson, Kilgore, Texas; stepchildren, Donald James Brandenburg and Mike Brandenburg, of Midwest City, Beverly Brandenburg, Springfield, Mo., and Shirley McComas and husband, Randy, of Chandler.

Also, 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bertha Littrell, of Muskogee, and Helen Gaskins and husband, Marvin, of Durant, and numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy C. and Carrie (Nelson) Isom.

Honorary pallbearers will be Randy McComas, Mark Chiles, Dustin Isom, T.J. Isom, Ray Gaskin, Jeff Gibson, Eric Gibson, Leycel Burger and Dr. Richard Valbuena.
