Two Wilburton High School seniors were recognized as Students of the Month for August by members of the Wilburton Kiwanis Club. The students were special guests during the club’s Wednesday, September 11 meeting held in the Student Life Center on the campus of Eastern Oklahoma State College. Pictured from left are, Kristen Smith and Chance Reeves. Smith is the daughter of Charles Smith. She attends Wilburton High School where she is a member of the academic team, competitive speech, science club and Spanish club. She placed third at the regional speech competition and seventh at the state speech contest. She also won a scholarship to Carl Albert State College by placing first in the curriculum contest there. Smith has volunteered at the local city pound and is currently employed part-time at the Wilburton Sonic. She plans to attend a major university upon graduation to pursue a degree in linguistics to become a translator. Reeves is the son of De Ann Rowe and Brian Reeves. He attends Wilburton High School where he has been a member of the Digger band, academic team, science club, Spanish club and speech. He is the percussion captain for the band and is a senior varsity academic team member. He has been a state runner-up in academic team, state qualifier in speech and a state qualifier in marching band. Reeves serves as a volunteer at the local Choctaw Nation Head Start. His hobbies include playing strategy games, playing percussion instruments, and working on vehicles. He plans to attend college upon graduation with a major in engineering or experimental physics.
