UPDATE: 911 call released in homicide investigation

ENID, Okla. — A 66-year-old Enid man is being held in Kansas on drug charges and also is a suspect in a Monday evening murder on West Walnut.

Enid Police Department Capt. Jack Morris said Michael L. Berdahl, who lives at 413 W. Walnut, was interviewed by EPD detectives and made some admissions to being involved in the shooting of David Richard Wimmer, 43.

At 6:48 p.m. Monday, the Enid and Garfield County 911 Center received a call from Berdahl’s roommate concerning a man who needed medical attention at a residence.

The caller told the operator the man was lying in a pool of blood. EPD officers, along with Enid Fire Department and Life EMS, responded to the call.

On arrival, officers entered the residence and found Wimmer inside a bedroom lying face down in a pool of blood, Morris said. Emergency medical personnel determined Wimmer was dead.

Officers found Wimmer had what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the upper left chest. EPD investigators were called to the scene, as was the state medical examiner's office. Wimmer’s body was taken to Oklahoma City for autopsy.

Detectives filed for a warrant for Berdahl’s arrest on complaints of possession of a firearm after former felony conviction with a $100,000 bond. Berdahl was in custody in Anthony, Kan., on drug charges and was found in possession of a firearm believed to be used in the Monday shooting, Morris said.

Morris said detectives are finishing paperwork to forward to the district attorney’s office to obtain charges for Berdahl in Wimmer’s death.
