J.H. 'Jody' Painter

J.H. “Jody” Painter, 87, of McAlester, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010, at his home.

Viewing will be held from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home of McAlester.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Chaney’s Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Gerald Kerns officiating. Burial will be at Tannehill Cemetery under the direction of Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home of McAlester.

Pallbearers include Bryan Painter, Tony Painter, Justen Dobbs, Jeremy Kennon, Derrick Allen and Raymond Cox.

Honorary pallbearers include Tyler Hembrock, Leroy Conner and Ronnie Painter.

Born March 27, 1922 in Alderson, he was the son of Joe William and Nellie Mae (Patty) Painter. He worked primarily as a farmer/rancher in the Tannehill Community. He also worked as a mechanic for B&A; Auto Sales, owned and operated Painter’s Service Station and Auto Sales, drove a truck for W.E. Alford Propane and worked for the city of McAlester in the water department until his retirement. After retirement, he continued working as a backhoe owner and operator in Tannehill. He enjoyed spending time on the farm and visiting with his children, grandchildren and friends.

Survivors include three daughters and spouses, Joe Ann and Jim Thomason, of Arrowhead Estates, Shirley Kardokus and Earl Markland, of McAlester and Brenda Hembrock, of St. Louis, Mo.; two sons, Jimmy and Carol Painter, of Tannehill and David Michael Painter, of McAlester; stepdaughter, Kelly Cunningham-Johnson, of Coweta; stepson, Randy Cunningham of McAlester.

And, brother, Clarence Painter and wife, Linda, of Krebs; three sisters and spouses, Roma and C.J. Bearden, of Bache, Helen Evans and husband, Tom, of McAlester and Loretta Cotter, of Eufaula; special friends, Bennie Blain and Carmen Knight; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and nieces, nephews, other family and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Dorothy Painter; second wife, Geraldine; two daughters, Carol J. Painter and Donna L. Painter; three grandsons, Jerry Dobbs, Samuel Cole and Heath Kinnamon; two brothers, Johnny Painter and Marvin Painter, and sister, Lorene Conner.
